Late last week, Governor Kemp released his Budget Report for Amended year 2021 and Fiscal Year 2022, where he asked for an additional $1 million for tourism development. This is the highest ever increase in state funds for tourism development. Also, in the budget report, the Governor is requesting that the states bond package include $90 million toward the Savannah Convention Center expansion project, $3.5 million for Savannah Technical College’s Culinary Arts and Hospitality Training Program’s expansion and $2.75 million for infrastructure and security improvements at Savannah State University and $12 million for Georgia Southern's Convocation Center construction project, among other things. Governor Brian P. Kemp delivered the 2021 State of the State Address before the General Assembly on Thursday. “As we begin a new year, a new legislative session, there are some who want to look to the past, assign blame, settle old scores, and relive and relitigate 2020,” Gov Kemp said. “Today, I think we should take the advice of those wise farmers. Let’s clear the fields and start planting.” Kemp focused on the state’s battle against COVID-19 and efforts to provide relief and emphasized the strength of Georgia’s economy in spite of challenges caused by the pandemic and that Georgia will not face budget cuts this year. Gov. Kemp concluded his address by ensuring Georgians there will be no new taxes. For a transcript of the 2021 State of the State Address, click here.
