Georgia Legislative Update

Last week the Georgia General Assembly met for legislative days 25-27 out of 40.  Crossover day, which is the 28th day of the 40-day legislative session, is the last day for bills to move from one chamber to the other. The Georgia General Assembly will reconvene on March 8 for crossover day.

The Georgia House passed the Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 Appropriations Bill, HB 81, the state’s $27.2 billion spending plan for FY 2022.  Several of the Chamber’s legislative priorities were included in HB 81:  funding for the Georgia Southern University’s Convocation Center construction project, the design construction and equipment for campus-wide HVAC and access control infrastructure at Savannah State University, and the design and construction of Savannah Technical College’s Culinary Institute.  Also, in the bill, the House agreed with Governor Kemp’s recommendation for an additional $90M for the Savannah Convention Center expansion project.  HB 81 now moves to the Senate for their recommendations and consideration.

For more information on the Chamber’s legislative priorities, email Jared Downs or call 912.644.6406.
