Concern Grows as Chatham County’s COVID Numbers Increase

Local officials are asking residents of Chatham County to remain vigilant as the Savannah area is seeing a spike in COVID infections this summer, as is the rest of the country. The Georgia Department of Public Health uses a community transmission index to track new infections in the Coastal Health District. The number of newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in the last 14 days per 100,000 residents, is back in the red for Chatham County. The DPH urges the business community to continue being Savannah Safe by stepping up cleaning and disinfecting protocols, handwashing, social distancing when possible and encouraging staff to get vaccinated. Unvaccinated residents remain the most vulnerable to new infections. Click here for a COVID-19 vaccine provider.
