Area Business Organizations Wrap-up the Year at the Savannah Area Year-End Business Luncheon

Chamber Chairmen Jon Pannell of Gray Pannell & Woodward, LLP, kicked off the meeting with an update on the Chamber's initiatives and events throughout the year. Representatives from Buy Local, Downtown Business Association, Greater Savannah Black Chamber of Commerce, Metropolitan Savannah Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Savannah Economic Development Authority, Tourism Leadership Council, and Visit Savannah also gave updates on their busy year serving the business community.

Chamber Announces Allyson Harvin of ServPro Savannah as Incoming Board Chairperson

The gavel passing took place last week at the Chamber's Annual Business Luncheon. Allyson Harvin, owner of ServePro Savannah, was named Chairmen of the Board of Directors for 2022. Harvin replaces Jon Pannell of Gray Pannell & Woodward, LLP after his extended two years of service to the board due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Allyson has been a small business owner in Savannah for more than 15 years. She has served as chair of the Chamber's Small Business Council for four years and received the Helen V. Head Small Business Advocate of the Year Award. The Chamber and our more than 2,200 + members are looking forward to Allyson's leadership in 2022 and beyond.

Robert H. Demere Jr. Honored with the Chamber's Prestigious Oglethorpe Award

At the Savannah Chamber's Business Luncheon last week, the business community came together to honor a community champion for his legacy of philanthropy and leadership with the prestigious Oglethorpe Award.

This year the Oglethorpe Award was presented to Robert H. Demere Jr., Chairmen of Colonial Oil Group.

Named for General James Edward Oglethorpe, a humanitarian, leader, and visionary who led 120 colonists in founding Savannah and the colony of Georgia in 1733, the Oglethorpe Award is given to individuals who demonstrate a legacy of philanthropy and leadership in Savannah.

Visit Savannah President Presents on Sales Symposium Panel for GACVB

Visit Savannah president Joseph Marinelli joined his counterparts Monica Smith (Southeast Travel Society), Casandra Matej (Visit Orlando), and Cleo Battle (Visit Louisville) on a CEO panel to discuss the virtues of sales careers in the hospitality industry. Each started their careers in either the hotel industry's food & beverage or sales side and now lead their respective destination marketing organizations. The Georgia Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus (GACVB) produced the conference and events with the Southeast Travel Society (STS). It was held at the Doubletree Hotel in Roswell, GA.

Visit Savannah's Sales Team Hit the Road in December for Successful Client Visits

Larry Browder of Visit Savannah and Angela Daniels of the Savannah Convention Center exhibited at the IAEE, Expo and Tradeshow this week in Philadelphia. The event draws attendees from across the US learning of destinations they can consider for their own meetings and events. Savannah was very well received and lots of attendees showed interest in the 2023 expansion of the Savannah Convention Center.
