Savannah Area Chamber Leadership Attends Georgia Chamber's Eggs & Issues

Incoming Savannah Area Chamber CEO Bert Brantley, Chamber Chairman Allyson Harvin, and Chamber Vice Presidents Jennifer Davenport and Jared Downs attended the Georgia Chamber of Commerce Eggs & Issues last week in Atlanta at the Georgia World Congress Center.

Chamber leadership heard from newly elected government officials, including Governor Brian Kemp, Lt. Governor Bert Jones, and Speaker of the House Jon Burns.

2023 Legislative Session of the Georgia Assembly Begins

Last Monday marked the start of the 2023 legislative session for the Georgia General Assembly, where General Assembly members were sworn in on the first day of the session. The House of Representatives voted Rep. Jon Burns to serve as their Speaker of the House. Previously serving as the House Majority Leader, Speaker Burns represents House District 159.

Visit Savannah Attends Professional Conference Management Association's Annual Meeting

Last week, Visit Savannah staffers, along with hospitality partners Angela Daniels of the Savannah Convention Center and Dawn Ryan of the Westin Resort, attended the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) meeting in Columbus, Ohio. This meeting brought together 3,200 of the nation's top meeting planners and destination representatives for continuing education and networking at this 4-day event.

Enmarket Savannah Hockey Classic Weekend Skates into Record Turnout

Over the weekend, the Savannah Sports Council held its 24th annual Enmarket Savannah Hockey Classic. More than 7,500 hockey fans gathered at the Enmarket Area for the first time to watch Collegiate club teams from The University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida, and Florida State, all competing for the newly named Ghost Pirate Cup. The University of Florida was victorious for a second year at the Enmarket Hockey Classic.

Visit Savannah Group Tour & Travel Council Holds Quarterly Meeting

Visit Savannah's Director of Group Tour and Travel, Anjuli King & Director of International Sales, Mindy Shea, met with Group Tour & Travel Council for their first quarterly meeting of the year. This group, consisting of community partners like hoteliers, trolley companies, museums/attractions brands, and restauranters, gathered to hear 2023 objectives and expectations.

The National Trust Honors MLK with $4 Million in Grants to Preserve Historic Black Churches, Including Savannah's Historic First Bryan Baptist Church

The National Trust for Historic Preservation's African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund has announced its first round of Preserving Black Churches grants totaling $4 million in awards to 35 churches. Historic First Bryan Baptist Church of Savannah, Ga, was selected from 1,266 funding proposals. The national grant will assist First Bryan with restoration projects, including roofing, plaster and stained-glass windows, enabling the building to witness another two centuries of American history.

LAST WEEK AT THE CHAMBER

Chamber Hosts Business Connection at Enmarket Arena

Last Thursday, Chamber members got a sneak preview of the ice rink inside the Enmarket arena during the first business connection of the year.  The 200+ guests enjoyed hors d'oeuvres, drinks, and lots of networking!  A highlight of the evening was when event sponsors, The Collegiate Hockey Federation, gave fans a chance to meet members of the collegiate sports teams, including those from the University of Georgia.

Chamber Power Hour Hosted at The Perry Lane Hotel, Talk 2023 Tax Rules

The Chamber hosted its monthly Power Hour at the Perry Lane Hotel last week. The guest speaker was Jeffery Williams Esq. from the J.L Williamson Law Group. Williams presented "New Year, New Tax Rules." to the more than 60 members in attendance, who asked great questions and enjoyed great networking.
