CGMAC Advocates for Coastal Georgia Military Support in Key Meetings Held in Washington D.C.
The Coastal Georgia Military Affairs Coalition (CGMAC) held significant meetings at the Pentagon on June 10, 2025, with Army and Air National Guard leaders, followed by discussions on June 11, 2025, with members of the Georgia Congressional Delegation. New Historic Marker Unveiled in Honor of Dr. Ralph Mark Gilbert
Savannah Chamber and Visit Savannah staff attended the special ceremony last week to unveil the new historic marker in honor of Dr. Ralph Mark Gilbert, also known as the “Father of Civil Rights in Savannah”. Hosted by Civil Rights Museum CEO, Vaughnette Goode-Walker, other speakers included Chatham County Commission Chairman, Chester Ellis and former County Chairman, Al Scott, Dr. Gilbert's granddaughter was also in attendance. Chamber Hosts InternSAV Event
On June 12, the Savannah Chamber hosted InternSAV, a networking event bringing together over 150 interns from more than 35 universities and 40 local businesses. Attendees connected with peers, explored career opportunities, and heard valuable career insights from leaders at Gulfstream and the Chamber. The event aims to showcase Savannah as a place to launch and grow a career. The next InternSAV will be held July 17 at Grayson Stadium, home of the Savannah Bananas. Read more ▶
City Council Passes Urban Camping Ordinance In a Collaborative Step Forward
After extensive coordination, engagement, and advocacy, the Savannah City Council has passed an urban camping ordinance—marking an important step in the city’s efforts to address homelessness and promote public safety. The County passed a similar ordinance last month. The Chamber was proud to play a role in that process, advocating for an approach that recognizes both the urgency of the issue and the need for compassion and dignity. It took strong leadership, thoughtful dialogue, and a shared commitment to progress to get this ordinance across the finish line. Read more ▶
Visit Savannah Promotes Savannah and Chatham County at Brand USA's Travel Trade Show
The Visit Savannah sales team was in Chicago last week promoting Savannah and Chatham County at Brand USA’s travel trade show, IPW. This expo hosts the largest number of international travel buyers at one show in the U.S. The team met with over 150 potential future prospects about their travel plans for 2026 and beyond, with a special emphasis on the World Cup coming to America and Georgia next summer. Jeff Hewitt, Kellie Linder, and Mindy Shea represented the area at the show alongside Explore Georgia staff and travel partners from across the state. Read more ▶

Savannah Music Festival Names New Director
The Savannah Music Festival (SMF) has appointed Dr. Sinisa Ćirić as its new Executive Director, effective June 24, 2025. He succeeds Gene Dobbs Bradford, who stepped down following the conclusion of the 2025 festival. Ćirić is a renowned violinist, conductor, and educator, with a distinguished career that includes 15 years with the Savannah Philharmonic. Ćirić plans to focus on community engagement and highlighting the importance of arts in Savannah. Read more ▶
Kiewit Hosts Virtual Outreach Event for the GDOT US 17/SR 404 Spur Bridge Major Maintenance Project
Kiewit is providing Construction Manager/General Contractor (CM/GC) Services for the delivery of the US 17/SR 404 Spur Bridge Major Maintenance Project in Chatham County, Georgia. The scope of the project includes replacement of existing cables, bridge bearings, and expansion joints on the cable-stayed bridge as part of scheduled maintenance activities. Additionally, the project will involve shortening the new cables to modify the bridge profile to maximize the available vertical clearance beneath the bridge. As part of their outreach, Kiewit is hosting a virtual subcontractor/supplier outreach event taking place on June 26, 2025 at 1pm. RSVPs are required. Read more ▶
SCAD SERVE Celebrates a Remarkable Year of Community Impact
SCAD is proud to announce the university's SCAD SERVE program partnered with more Savannah and Atlanta-based nonprofits, schools, and agencies than ever before. Launched by SCAD President Paula Wallace, the initiative empowers students, faculty, and staff to support their communities through projects focused on food, housing, education, and more. Since Fall 2024, SCAD SERVE Design for Good courses have collaborated with organizations like the American Red Cross, Ronald McDonald House, and the Junior League of Savannah to deliver impactful design solutions.
