Savannah Sports Council Lands the AAU Gymnastics National Championship for June 21-23

This June, Savannah will play host to the AAU Gymnastics National Championship at the Savannah Convention Center. The event will welcome between 1,500-2,000 athletes accounting for over 5,000 room nights and a direct visitor spend exceeding $3 million for the community.

Visit Savannah kicked off the New Year by promoting the destination to both leisure travelers and upcoming brides and grooms. Full-page, four-color advertisements of Savannah were placed in Departures magazine, Kingdom magazine and Atlanta Style Weddings magazine.

Anxiety about the pandemic is as high as ever right now, but driven by optimism about vaccine timelines, Americans keep seeing the light at the end of the tunnel grow larger and closer as per Destination Analysts' update on American Travel in the period of Coronavirus for January 25. This more hopeful outlook has lifted excitement about travel, with planned trips beginning to ramp up in May and urban destinations continuing to show signs of recovery.

Leadership Glynn County Explores Savannah for City-to-City Visit

The 2020/2021 class spent three days exploring Savannah and meeting with local business and government leaders to discuss how our community handled the shut-down due to the pandemic and what Savannah expects to see moving forward.  Leadership Glynn is patterned after Savannah’s successful program that began in 1961.
