Amazon has selected the Chatham County Development Site, known as the Pooler megasite, for a new 640,000-square foot fulfillment facility that will bring 1,000 jobs and nearly $250 million in investment. The location, originally part of the City of Pooler near I-95 and I-16, is a 1,900-acre site that was de-annexed in 2015 and became part of unincorporated Chatham County. The facility is expected to be operational by late 2022, and will feature Amazon robotics technology, who will work alongside employees.

Savannah hosted the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Lacrosse Invitational Championship for men’s and women’s May 5-8, 2021. The event, held at Memorial Stadium, was organized by the Savannah Sports Council, a division of Visit Savannah and the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce. Eight teams each on the men’s and women’s tournament featured teams from Georiga, Kentucky, Michigan, Kansas, Indiana, Missouri, Ohio, and Iowa.

On Friday, May 7, as a showcase of appreciation for local partners, the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS) hosted a virtual lunch and presentation. SCCPSS’s student culinary classes cooked and assembled the boxed lunches that were then delivered across the city.

The Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG) program was established by the Economic Aid to Hard-Hit Small Businesses, Nonprofits, and Venues Act, and amended by the American Rescue Plan Act. The program includes over $16 billion in grants to shuttered venues, to be administered by SBA’s Office of Disaster Assistance. Eligible applicants may qualify for grants equal to 45% of their gross earned revenue, with the maximum amount available for a single grant award of $10 million. $2 billion is reserved for eligible applications with up to 50 full-time employees.

Union Mission will be hosting a Hospitality Industry Job Fair on Thursday, May 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. As the travel and tourism industry rebounds from COVID-19 economic impacts, hospitality businesses are looking for both part and full-time candidates. Good paying jobs including cooks, customer service, landscaping, housekeeping, wait staff, and many more. No prior hospitality experience is required as employers will offer on-the-job training. Entry level positions are available.

Last Tuesday, the Chamber hosted their Courses and Conversations event at Savannah Country Club. At this lunchtime networking opportunity, participants started their meal with an appetizer course and networked with the people at their table. After 20 minutes, they rotated to another table to enjoy their entrée with another group.

Tina Mock, Director of Business Development, spoke on the Savannah Community Headlines Live Show (also known as #Watercooler) on Monday, May 3. On Monday’s episode, viewers learned about a new meal delivery company called The Dive Savannah, the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce, the 100 Foundation, Bowl-A-Palooza, the yoga and mental health connection, Faith Equestrian Therapeutic Center, an axe throwing company, and the Feed a Trucker kickoff on May 7.
