Last week's Savannah-Chatham Day in Atlanta brought more than 200 Savannah business professionals to the Capitol for an opportunity to network with local and state elected officials and their key staff. More than 700 people attended the event at the Georgia Freight Depot that featured a Savannah-style Oyster Roast and Low Country Boil.

Visit Savannah's Joseph Marinelli and Jeff Hewitt met with representatives from the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau and Explore Georgia to develop a collaborative plan to attract more conventions and meetings to the state. One piece of that plan includes this year’s American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) conference, where the group will share a 30x40 exhibit booth an immersive video wall experience showcasing each destination.

The MLK Visitor Center now has letterboxing, and Mava Byrd, director of the Savannah Information Centers, showed the staff at the January staff meeting. Letterboxing is similar to a scavenger hunt. Letterboxers hide small boxes in public places and distribute clues to finding the box. Individual letter boxes contain a notebook and a rubber stamp.

On Saturday, February 5, the United States Navy commissioned the USS Savannah (LCS-28) at the Georgia Ports facility in Brunswick. In attendance was the ship's sponsor Mrs. Diane Isakson, wife of the late United States Senator from Georgia, Johnny Isakson, City of Savannah Mayor Van Johnson and Jared Downs, VP of Governmental Affairs for the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce.

Our area is experiencing a critical need for blood. The Blood Connection will be hosting a Share the Love Community Blood drive on Monday, February 14, from Noon – to 6 p.m. at the Armstrong Center.
