Chamber’s VP of Governmental Affairs, Jared Downs along with Chatham County Commission Chairman Chester Ellis and Savannah Alderman Nick Palumbo flew to Washington, D.C. last week with The Coastal Georgia Military Affairs Coalition. Their mission was to advocate for the continued building, development, and strengthening of the coastal Georgia community that supports Department of Defense activities, missions, installations, personnel, and families throughout the state of Georgia. The House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee released a report denying the Biden Administration’s FY2023 budget request to close the Savannah Combat Readiness Training Center (CRTC). While the report signals broad support for keeping the center open, the package still requires a full House Appropriations Committee vote before advancing to the House and Senate for final passage.

Leadership Savannah Class of 2022 spent a fantastic day touring several locations and learning about how Savannah plays a significant part in Georgia’s economic development.
The Leadership class obtained a lot of useful insights from several partners. Savannah Economic Development Authority CEO and President, Trip Tollison, spoke about new commerce in the Savannah area, and especially SEDA’s outstanding success in bringing in the Hyundai Motor Company (현대자동차) to our region.

Visit Savannah Sales team travelled to Chicago last week for a roadshow. Team members Kellie Linder, Jeff Hewitt, Ginger McCoy, and Mark Lupfer from the Savannah Convention Center participated in variety of events including visits with clients at AMC, a happy hour at the Rose Room, Lunch at Gibson’s Italia and dinner at Lucca Osteria. The team was overjoyed to share news about the Convention’s expansion and all the latest developments brewing in Savannah.
