The Senate Approves Full Funding for the Georgia CRTC

Last week, the Senate Appropriations Committee (SAC) released the FY23 Defense Appropriations Report which fully funds the Georgia CRTC (Combat Readiness Training Center) by providing $6.5M for personnel and $5.2M in operations & maintenance.

The next steps for the House and the Senate is to conference the Defense Appropriations Bill. The conference is slated for later this year.

Everyone is invited to attend this FREE, all-encompassing business event of the year!

Join the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce for the 2022 Chamber Business Expo and Business Connection on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at The Kehoe Ironworks Building, from 3 – 7 p.m. 

This popular Chamber event welcomes more than 500 members and guests for an afternoon of business networking and community engagement. Restaurateurs will be sharing sample hors d'oeuvres and cocktails will be served. Aesthetic and wellness spas, event suppliers, financial institutions, and non-profits are just some of the diverse exhibitors who will be on-site.

Visit Savannah Sales and Marketing Teams Attend DI Annual Conference in Toronto

The Visit Savannah sales and marketing team members attended Destinations International's (DI) Annual Conventions in Toronto last week.

The team had opportunities to connect with peers and thought leaders from inside and outside the industry and come together with stakeholders to cultivate innovative approaches to help advance Savannah's visitor economy.

Visit Savannah President Speaks at The U.S. Travel Association Board Meeting

Visit Savannah President, Joseph Marinelli attended U.S. Travel Association's Summer Board Meeting last week. Marinelli serves on the Meetings Mean Business Coalition Advisory Board  - an industry-wide coalition working to showcase the undeniable value of business meetings, trade shows, incentive travel, exhibitions, conferences, and conventions.

One breakout session was entirely focused on how the Association will work with the Biden administration and federal legislators to promote business travel again, with special emphasis on meetings and conventions travel.

Chamber Staff to Attend Grand Opening of Homeless Shelter and Plan for Future Work in Homelessness

On Monday, August 1st, the Chamber staff joins Chatham Savannah Authority's Executive Director, Jennifer Darey, to celebrate the grand opening of Tiny House Village 3 for the homeless. This village, 1 of 3 at the Cove at Dundee, will give 11 veterans permanent supportive houses bringing the total number of units available to 34.


Later this week, the Chatham County Continuum of Care (CoC) will also convene a general membership meeting.

Visit Savannah Showcased at Greater Midwest Chapter's Annual Golf Classic in Chicago

Last week, Visit Savannah's Kellie Linder, national sales director of Mid-west markets, showcased Savannah at the Greater Midwest Chapter's (GMC) Annual Golf Classic. The golf classic is the inaugural event of the Professional Convention Management Association (GMC PCMA) serving the Midwest region of the United States.

Visit Savannah was one of the sponsors of the event and utilized this platform to market the city to meetings and convention planners in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

Chamber Attends Launch Event of Savannah's First Sustainable to-go Cups

Last week, Chamber staffers attended the Downtown Business Association’s unveiling of the city’s first-ever sustainable to-go cups. Partnering with some local businesses, this is a project that is expected to grow and become one of the many endeavors highlighting Savannah’s participation in an eco-friendly and carbon-neutral world.

The design was created by Dana Richardson, a local artist who made sure to encapsulate the colorful skyline of the city along with the iconic vistas. These recyclable aluminum cups will also double as souvenirs for visitors!
