Weekly State Legislative Update

The Georgia General Assembly was in recess last week to allow the House and Senate Appropriations Committees to conduct joint state budget hearings. The Joint Appropriations Committee met to begin amending the FY23 budget and setting the funding levels for FY24.

Kimberley Philips Named 2023 Visit Savannah Board Chairmen

At last week's Visit Savannah Board of Directors meeting, Corey Jones of Lucky Savannah Vacation Rentals passed the gavel to Kimberly Phillips of City Market for the 2023 chairmanship. Phillips plans to utilize fellow board members' talent and experience to discuss and help foster solutions for some of tourism's critical issues.

Leadership Savannah Holds Opening Reception for Class of 2023

Leadership Savannah welcomed its newest class on January 17 with an opening reception at Savannah College of Art and Design's Poetter Hall.  This year's class enjoyed mingling in the historic building, which was the original home of the Georgia Volunteer Guard and was SCAD's first building.

Savannah's Charm Makes Impression in France

French Publication, Terre.TV  featured an article (translated), "What to do in Savannah: The top 12 Must-Do Activities," which generously praised Savannah for having an authentic cachet. Bonaventure Cemetery and Savannah's historic squares were celebrated for their enduring charm, along with the numerous museums which house unique local folklore and history for visitors to experience.

Visit Savannah Welcomes New Research Manager

Visit Savannah welcomes Frida Bahja, Ph.D., to the team as the new research manager. Frida holds a Ph.D. in Hospitality and Tourism Management from the University of Central Florida. Much of her scholarly work deals with developing an interdisciplinary understanding of tourism resilience, vulnerability, and sustainability.

Economic Outlook Luncheon 2023 Forecasts Growth for Savannah

Last week, the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce's 2023 Economic Outlook luncheon took place at the Savannah Convention Center. More than 800 members gathered to hear the annual economic forecast for regional, state, and national levels presented. Georgia Southern University's Dr. Michael Toma provided the Savannah Area forecast, and UGA's Dr. Benjamin Ayers, Dean of the Terry College of Business, provided the state and national forecasts.

Chloe Arrojado, Associate Editor of AFAR Magazine (Destinations), met with Visit Savannah's Public Relations Team last week. Launched in August 2009, AFAR is written for those who travel the world and want to connect with its cultures.
