Last week, Savannah Area Chamber joined city and county officials in celebrating a grand opening of a new hangar at Savannah’s Combat Readiness Training Center / Air Dominance Center. Georgia’s Adjutant General Thomas Carden was also present at this event. When the CRTC was threatened with loss of funding in the federal budget, the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce joined a host of elected, business, and civic leaders from the region to fight to restore the funding. That effort was successful, as General Carden noted at the ceremony.

Chamber Vice President Jennifer Davenport along with community stakeholders met this past week to discuss the establishment of a Community Court to help address the needs of area homeless populations. Hosted by Sheriff John Wilcher at the Chatham County Detention Center, the discussion centered around the development of a Community Court. A Community Court is an alternative problem-solving court that is held in a shelter or other accessible community center outside of a traditional court room.

Visit Savannah will welcome the U.S. Travel Association's 39th annual Tourism Marketing Conference, "ESTO," August 19-23 at the Savannah Convention Center. ESTO is an annual conference for destination marketing professionals from city, regional, and state tourism offices. In preparation for the Conference, the Chamber and Visit Savannah team prepped welcome gifts for attendees. The big effort was made easier thanks to the team at the Savannah Convention Center.

The Savannah Chamber and Visit Savannah recently met with the new leadership team for its five Visitor Information Centers (VICs) to set the course for the remainder of this year and next. The meeting was led by Visit Savannah President Joseph Marinelli and included the new VIC managers Kelli Lee, Danielle Arnold, Liz Hood, and Shiketa Hales. The team discussed their plans for improving the VICs' customer service, marketing, and programming.
